Sanité Bélair was a fearless lieutenant in Haiti’s War of Independence and one of the few women to lead troops into battle. Fighting alongside her husband, Charles Bélair, she defied colonial rule with unmatched courage. Captured by the French, she refused a blindfold and faced execution with dignity and defiance — becoming an enduring symbol of Haitian resistance and womanhood.
She died for liberty. She lives in legacy.

Sanité Bélair fut une lieutenante intrépide dans la guerre d’indépendance d’Haïti, et l’une des rares femmes à diriger des troupes au combat. Aux côtés de son mari, Charles Bélair, elle défia la domination coloniale avec un courage inégalé. Capturée par les Français, elle refusa le bandeau et affronta l’exécution avec dignité et défi — devenant un symbole éternel de résistance haïtienne et de bravoure féminine.
